Book Spotlight: Plastic Crown #6

Updated: 4 days ago

By Akira B.

Glad to have you back over at WildStar Press' Blog!

It's been silent on our end as this small team has been preparing articles for our three online publications! If you haven't seen them yet, we've churned out a lot of Morning Dew Discussions and Curiosity's Corner Chats in hopes to encourage more artistic community discussions and help those that are trying to get started in their respective comics, illustrative, writing, etc careers. And of course, we can't forget Review Starlight, highlighting different comics (and soon books) that we admire in some shape or fashion.

On top of that, we've finally shipped Coiled to Strike anthologies and of course, we're getting books ready to be published!

Can you believe there's only three months left of 2024?? Time sure is flying and WSP is still on the map, uplifting the voices of diverse creators as our statement goes. With that being said, let's get you caught up on what's in store for September and forward.

Illustrated by Akira B.

Plastic Crown Issue 6 (Kanon Daniel)

A young and reluctant pageant queen, trapped under her mother's thumb, begins a new life at school wanting nothing more than a normal life. However, when she finally makes her first friend, despite her mother's strict rules, she begins to uncover dark secrets about her mother and her own life that she may not be ready to face.

In this issue (6 of 8!), things are heating up! Ren and Kat begin to make their next move against Evelyn as the doll maker herself makes plans to host search parties for the town's 'missing children'. And with Dani undercover and back in town, the three girls have even less time to figure out how to stop this deceptive doll maker before her plans come into fruition!

And a sneak peek at the first few pages below:

Plastic Crown Issue 6 will be available Digitally and Physically on September 13th, 2024 in the WildStar Press shop. Kanon and I can't wait to share how this 8 issue series unfolds!

We also have some general updates for you!

  • Coiled to Strike has been shipped out! Physical copies of the book may not be available until next year, but keep an eye out on the shop and some of the contributors who have bought copies to sell!

  • Fates Issue 5 is in the works! Remember, they're free to read over at Far Travelers' page, but if you'd like to collect them, grab the physical copies over here! Support their Patreon as well!

  • We have one more Morning Dew and Curiosity Corner to wrap up the year! We'll be putting some more attention into Review Starlight alongside the prose section of WildStar Press. (Move over Orion, it's Eri's time to shine)

  • With that being said, we're in the early stages of our first Prose Anthology! There will be more news about it later, so keep an eye out!

  • Don't be discouraged, comic submissions will be open next year as well, there's just no official dates yet.

  • 2025, we'll be trying our hand at more conventions too so if there's somewhere you'd like to see WSP, let us know!

  • And finally!!!!!

NEW BOOK ALERT!!!!!

*Not Final Design

Josh Tierney (writer of Spera, Warm Blood, World Piece) and Nicci B. (artist in her book-length debut!) are creating Black Plastic, a story set in Toronto, 20XX.

We follow Gigi and Tokui, two connectors who have just stolen incriminating data from a major corporation - now on the run from a pair of assassins. Gigi and Tokui hole up in Black Plastic, a 16-storey monolith of a building devoted entirely to karaoke. Will they make it out or will the last thing they see be the bright lights of lyrics across a karaoke machine. WildStar Press presents the world's first karaoke cyber thriller.

As an indie publisher, we rely on all of you to keep us going and WildStar Press would not get far without all of your wonderful support. With that being said, if you'd like to donate to keep the lights on over here, we have a Ko-Fi! All proceeds will go back into the Press from website maintenance to book printing and more!

We're continuously grateful for all of your support whether it's been through purchasing books or sharing them across platforms. We're still fresh and new to this but we hope you're just as excited about all of the new things coming up as we are!

Until next time, see you in the stars 🌟
